Get Out the Vote
Back in 2012 in Florida, my friend Miya was phone banking when an unexpected volunteer showed up to make calls.
That caller was none other than Barack Obama (!!!), for whom I too had volunteered. Knocking doors in 2008 in Charlottesville, Virginia, I talked with voters not only about Obama but also about the congressional challenger Tom Periello. In a recount, Periello won by 727 votes. So each knock had truly mattered. During his time in Congress, Periello helped to pass the Affordable Care Act and DREAM Act.
This year, I'm bummed not to be knocking on doors, but I know there are other effective ways to turn out each and every vote. I've been making calls to voters in swing states with the Biden-Harris campaign. Many friends and relatives are writing letters with Vote Forward, and giving generously to the Movement Voter Project.
